Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is one of the medications used to treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or better known as ADHD.  It is used in both children and adults, starting at 6 years  of age.  Vyvanse is usually used along with a treatment program that may include but not limited to psychological, educational, and social therapy.

This prescription medication, Vyvanse, may also be used for other treatments as determined by your physician.

What is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention deficit disorder (ADD)?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is inattention, hyperactivity or impulsive behaviour.  Some symptoms of ADHD are (but are not limited too):

  • Easily distracted
  • Not able to stay seated for long periods of time, overly restless or fidgety behavior
  • Impulsive behavior (acts without thinking)
  • Frequently calling out in class (lacks impulse comtrol – without raising hand, yelling out answer before question is finished)
  • Not able to follow through with teachers’ or parents’ requests
  • Difficulty waiting being patient and waiting for ones turn group settings
  • Failure to complete projects, moving from one project to another without completing them
  • Focus issues, unable to stay focused on a game, project or homework assignment

ADHD is most commonly first diagnosed in children of school age when the teacher or parent notices some of these previously mentioned behaviours.  However, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is not limited to children and adults suffer with ADHD as well.
